Your Classroom in Motion

Created in collaboration with Universal Orlando Resort™ educational professionals and UWF educators, Your Classroom in Motion: A STEAM App Series is designed to bring the classroom to life inside the worlds of Universal Studios™ and Universal’s Islands of Adventure™.

Currently comprising five unique apps, Your Classroom in Motion: A STEAM App Series highlights individual rides in the theme parks and lets students experience how a specific subject area in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics is relevant in both their education and the world at large.

The Apps

Using a tablet with software exclusive to groups participating in the program at Universal Orlando™, students will experience hands-on learning lessons at top attractions within Universal Studios Florida™ and Universal’s Islands of Adventure™. They’ll have the ability to make scientific observations, calculate speeds and vectors, and even build an entire ride motion profile.

Our goal is to transform classroom studies into compelling learning experiences at Universal Orlando™ that students genuinely enjoy,

said Teresa Crews, Universal Orlando’s educational program developer and a former classroom teacher.

The activities in these programs were designed to expose students to educational materials that will ignite a passion for learning and show them that classroom lessons can be applied to future career paths.

There are currently five different apps that lead students through different STEAM-related areas of interest:

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit™ Science

A heart-pounding lesson in physical principles, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit™ Science takes students inside the loops and drops of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit™, teaching them hands-on lessons about the conservation of energy behind one of Universal Orlando’s top attractions.

Mummy Dig-Site Detective

Dig-Site Detective puts your students in the middle of a strange series of events on our Revenge of the Mummy™ attraction, asking them to use their powers of scientific observation to find evidence and draw conclusions based on their perceptions of the ride environment.

Jurassic Paleobotany

Students become paleobotanists in Jurassic Paleobotany, searching Jurassic Park™ for foliage from the era of the dinosaurs and comparing their findings to fossils to make identifications. Working in groups, students use tablets to photograph plants and plot their locations on a map of the area, experiencing the rush of scientific discovery in the process.

Kongtrol Panel

With hands-on learning and real-life excitement, Kongtrol Panel pulls students into the world of Skull Island: Reign of Kong™, where they use engineering principles to program simulated vehicles safely around tracks of varying difficulty.

Transformers ROLL Out

Students learn about the engineering principles of the 6 Degrees of Freedom and apply that knowledge to a hands-on analysis of TRANSFORMERS™: The Ride – 3D. Students then use their new skills to reconstruct the ride vehicle’s motion sequences.
